Taller Ditoria

History

Taller Ditoria was founded in 1995 by a small group of poets and artists. We set up our own printing press and letterpress type and equipment. From its beginning, the purpose of Ditoria has been to use the craft of letterpress, to preserve the traditional fine arts of the book, and to combine these with a contemporary, experimental approach to the composition of both poetry and narrative. Ditoria has published the work of eminent authors as well as emerging writers. Yet we always try to adhere to high standards of writing and design. We aim to produce unique, fine press books. In recent years Ditoria has become an important presence in the cultural landscape of México.

We publish up to 5 titles per year. But normally produce 2 to 3 new titles every year. Given the special characteristic of each book, we pay special attention to the typographic form for each text, as each requires different expressive treatment. We distribute our books mainly by subscription. We have more than 140 individual subscribers in 5 countries. We also have institutional susbscribers such as Princeton University library, Stanford Library, University of San Diego, North Carolina University, among others. We sell directly to anyone from our workshop in México City and at the International Book Fair of Guadalajara.

Juan Gelman, Saúl Yurkievich, Ida Vitale, Juan Soriano, Gerardo Deniz, José Luís Rivas and Ulises Carrión are some of the authors that have seen their unedited texts hand printed and manufactured in our work shop in recent year.
